FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: WHY CHOOSE MIDNIGHT SUN BOAT CHARTERS OVER OTHER OPTIONS IN THE ISLANDS?

A: With a number of different charter boat companies throughout the Caribbean, it can be hard to decide on what is right for you and your Family. But now that you’ve found us, it doesn’t have to be! At Midnight Sun Boat Charters we offer the most technically advanced boats on the market today, fully customized for an unforgettable private charter experience for up to 12 guests. M/V Obsidian is our original, all black 2015 37ft Midnight Express hull. She was designed to turn heads. With her 11’6’’ wide deep V hull & three 300hp Yamaha Outboard engines, the ride is made fast and comfortable in most all sea conditions. M/V Onyx was our second addition to the fleet, a Titanium Gray 2017 43ft Midnight Express. Fully customized in Miami in 2019, and refit in 2023, she has a 13’6” beam, stepped deep V hull, and powered by highly efficient Mercury Verado 350HP engines. Or choose our other boat M/V Opal, also a 37ft Midnight Express added to the fleet at end of 2021. And recently we moved our 4th 43ft Midnight named M/V Oro down from Miami. All boats offer large comfortable seating in front and behind the helm, bucket seat bench at the rear, a full arch hard top providing lots of shade, bespoke Bentley stitched seating, MarineMat flooring for squishy soft comfort underfoot, and dive doors for easy access in and out of the water. While Obsidian and Opal only have a marine head in console under the helm, both Onyx and Oro boast a cabin and full bathroom below with a shower. So if bathroom is a necessity, we recommend our 43ft boats! We also provide you with clean and sanitized snorkel gear and noodles for flotation as necessary. At Midnight Sun our goal is to provide you with an unforgettable experience cruising the Islands. Our boats are faster than the others on offer, so you can do more with your day, enjoy more time at your destinations rather than spending it getting there. If it’s your first time, your licensed captain, with over a decade of experience with the local waters, will help you put together an unforgettable itinerary for your day!

Cost of Obsidian/Opal per day is 1,600.00$ for up to - 6 passengers. $50/pp each additional guest, and we can take up to 12 passengers. Fuel and Gratuity is Extra.

GRATUITY: In this service industry it is customary to tip your Captain & Mate at the end of the charter. They will ensure that you are well taken care of throughout your day and provide a safe & luxurious charter experience. We suggest a 20-25% gratuity based on the base charter rate.

If you decide to go to the British Virgin Islands, you can expect to pay an additional $65-75pp in Customs fees (depending on your group size), and prices can fluctuate, especially on U.S. & British Holidays.

FUEL costs will vary depending on how far you travel. While we operate on state of the art efficient fuel injected engines, the farther you go the more you will burn. On an average BVI day expect to burn between $400-$625 in fuel. Less for trips around the USVI. Fuel usage is recorded on digital gauges and the gallons burned are multiplied by the current price of fuel. *Fuel is currently $6.70/gal due to the economic conditions and fuel costs may vary while Fuel prices fluctuate due to global pressures.

Local’s discounts available, as well as VIP charter rates. Feel free to contact us for more info.

At the time you book your charter, we will take a major credit card to hold the reservation. The balance is due at the conclusion of the charter after the fuel is calculated. The Captain fee & tip, is preferred in cash at the end of charter.

72hr Cancellation policy. We understand that unexpected things happen that are sometimes out of your control. We ask that if you have to cancel, give us at least a 72hr notice. Otherwise we reserve the right to keep the deposit if we cannot agree on an alternative charter date. A 3% CC processing fee will be withheld on any Refunds given under our cancellation policy.

Creating amazing memories is what we are all about. It is your day, you choose your adventure and itinerary and we will do everything in our power to make it happen (weather permitting). Feel free to ask us about custom multi-day charters, or whatever else you may have in mind.

Q: WILL THERE BE A COAST GUARD LICENSED CAPTAIN PROVIDED?

A: Of course! We will provide you with a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Captain. Your Captain is trained in first aid and CPR and meets all coast guard training requirements. From the minute you step foot on the vessel, until the teary goodbyes, your Captain will become a new friend who guides you through your adventure. The Captain (and an optional Mate on Onyx/Oro) will inform you of the safety features aboard our boats, as well as help you plan and safely navigate you through the perfect experience. If you decide to go to the British Virgin Islands, they will deal with all the paperwork for Customs & Immigration. Sit back relax and let your Captain show you the islands, the way they are meant to be seen.

Q: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS AND THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS?

A: The Virgin Islands consist of over 90 different islands, an most offer unique features or vibes . The U.S.V.I. is made up of 4 larger islands and 50 smaller islets and cays. By staying in U.S. waters you will forgo having to pay BVI & US customs duties and save $65-$75 per person (depending on your group size) on the day. An excursion over to the BVIs is not necessary as there is so much to do and see around the US waters as well. There is over 7,000 acres of National Park around St John, including protected reefs which make for amazing snorkeling. With over 300 beaches, numerous beach bars and restaurants to choose from, the USVI is a great day charter option!

Crossing over to the British Isles no longer require proof of vaccination or a neg Antigen test, but we still need customs clearance and that can take up to an hour out of your day, depending on day of week, customs office, and possible Holiday. But the Captain (or Mate) will do their best to speed up the process and once you’ve cleared though, you are free to explore all the beauty that is the B.V.I. The high powered engines on our boats gives you an upper hand that not many other boats posses, so your range is greater and you can see more in the same amount of time! The day is yours…

Note - Clearing back into the US will also be necessary on St John and will cut your day a bit short as US Customs office closes at 5:30p currently.

Q: WHAT SHOULD WE BRING FOR OUR DAY ABOARD?

A: When planning a day on the water in the Caribbean, there are a few essential things you will need to bring. We always recommend protection from the sun. Hats and breathable Rash Guards are the easiest way to prevent burns. If you didn’t bring any, we got you covered, ask your Captain about our Hats, Shirts, and Towels for sale on the boats. Sunscreen is also a good alternative to have while boating. We ask that you have plenty of it, but please NO SPRAY SUNSCREEN!!! Not even if you put it on prior to getting on the boat. The aerosol chemicals in it stain the decks and seats for weeks. The boats are outfitted with new Cressi brand snorkel gear & noodle flotation devices. We will provide water and ice on the boat, but you are welcome to bring other drinks of choice and snacks. There is a grocery store in Red Hook, where the boat is docked making it convenient for picking up drinks and food the morning of your charter. If you plan on going to the British islands, you will need to bring a valid passport, or notarized copy of your Birth Certificate (kids only) along with $65-$75pp in cash for Customs fees. Customs fees may vary on U.S. and British holidays.

Q: WHY DO WE HAVE TO CLEAR THROUGH BRITISH AND U.S. CUSTOMS & IMMIGRATION?

A: If you plan to go to The British Islands, we will be crossing international borders and you will have to clear into the territory. With 5 different Customs offices located throughout the B.V.I. we are able to go in different directions when entering the waters. For more info you can go to bvitourism.com. If we do go to the BVI’s, we will also need to clear back into the USA on St John, a relatively quick process, depending on time of day and ferry boat arrivals, but the US Customs office closes at 4:30p so your day may get cut a little short so we can sort the clearance back into the US.
